The SIUE Women's Club Basketball Team finished their season with a bang on Sunday by defeating Penn State for the national title. The NCCS NIRSA National Championship was held at UNC Charlotte, where the Cougars defeated Columbus State University, University of California San Diego, and Penn State University in pool play to move on to the Sunday bracket play. The Cougars came out strong Sunday morning defeating Ohio State in the semi-finals 24-18 and moving on to beat Penn State 47-31 in the championship game. Sophomore, Kelly Korza, was named to the all-tournament team along with graduating grad student, Georgia Mueller, who was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
The 2012 NIRSA National Championship win marks the second appearance and also second win of the national tournament, making the SIUE Women's Club Basketball team back-to-back national champions. Players Mueller, Korza, Jenny Bealmear, and Erica Miller were part of the 2011 team who returned for this year's win.

The Club posted yet another successful tournament win after defeating the University of Illinois in the championship game on Sunday, February 5. The team went 7-0 for the weekend defeating Illinois State University, Northwestern University, St. Louis University and the University of Illinois. The team looks forward to participating in the NIRSA Regional Tournament at the University of Florida in Gainesville this weekend.

The SIUE Women's Club Basketball team picked up their first win of 2012 in a match-up against John A. Logan College. After losing a few girls due to December graduation, the team looked confident on Saturday, winning 79-57. SIUE (27-1) is looking forward to another outstanding semester in preparations for the repeat of the National Championship title. The Cougars will be heading to the University of Illinois for their final regular season tournament in February before competing at the University of Florida for the NIRSA Regional Tournament in March.

The SIUE Cougars remained undefeated in the "club world," as they won the SIUE 3rd Annual Winter Warm-Up Tournament. The team sported PINK socks, shoelaces, and warm ups and collected donations to support the Christine Neuman-Affourtit Foundation and the fight against breast cancer. The ladies went 6-0 over the weekend, defeating Eastern Kentucky (63-32), Mizzou (44-36), SLU (50-30), and University Illinois Chicago (59-41) in pool play. The team then went on to defeat St. Louis in the semi-finals (47-22), and then faced MIzzou in a heated rematch, (43-34). The team finishes the semsester 25-1 and will resume play on January 14 against John A. Logan College.

The SIUE Women's Club Basketball team continued their winning ways with another tournament championship last weekend at Marquette University. The team started off pool play with wins over Truman State (61-33), Marquette - Blue (64-48), Wisconsin (54-46), and University of Illinois (41-29). With the top seed of the tournament going into bracket play, the Cougars were given a bye in the first round. In the quarterfinals the ladies defeated Central Michigan (44-18) and later Illinois State (61-43) in the semifinals. The championship game came down to two teams from the NIRSA National Tournament last season, where SIUE faced their most challenging club team of the year. The game was a close one, with the Cougars edging the Golden Eagles of Marquette - Gold (58-48). The team improved to 19-1 and is still undefeated in the "club world." SIUE will host their next tournament the first weekend of December. Go Cougars!

The Women's Club Basketball team of SIUE suffered their first loss of the season this past weekend in the Tradition Inn Classic in Park Hills, Missouri. They lost their first game of the tournament on Friday against Vincennes University, with the final score of 78-51. But, the Cougars rebounded with a close victory on Saturday over Mineral Area College. They beat the host team in dramatic fashion, with the score of 60-59. The team inproves to 12-1 on the season, and will play in their third tournament of the month, next weekend at Marquette University.

The SIUE Women's Club Basketball team went 7-0 this past weekend. The team started with a win Thursday night at home against Greenville College, scoring a season high in total points, with a final score of 93-73. The ladies then traveled to The Ohio State University for the weekend, where they met 19 other teams from across the midwest. SIUE opened the tournament on Friday night with wins over Ivy Tech Community College (51-36) and Miami (Ohio) (45-37). Bracket play began Saturday and the Cougars earned a #3 seed which got them a bye in the opening round of play. In the second round they were stuck facing Ivy Tech College for a second time where they defeated them once again, 43-19. Then the cougars defeated Miami (Ohio) in the quarterfinals (48-25), and went on to defeat Indiana University (61-28) to advance to the championship game. In the finals, SIUE faced the University of Illinois. The teams were evenly matched and the game came down to the wire, with the cougars winning in dramatic fashion, 39-38. With this victory, SIUE bacame the back-to-back Ohio State Hoops Challenge Champions. The team improved to 11-0 after the weekend, but will face some of the toughest teams of the season this upcoming weekend at the Tradition Inn Classic hosted by Mineral Area College (MAC). SIUE will face Vincennes on Friday at 1pm, and MAC on Saturday at 3pm. Congrats girls and keep up the hard work!

The team continued their winning streak as they defeated the Griffins of Fontbonne University Thursday night. The final score was 70-50. They also won their first home game on Saturday against Missouri Baptist University, posting a score of 76-64. These wins improve the team's record to 4-0. The club will play Greenville at home on Thursday, and then head to Ohio State University for the weekend. SIUE will be looking for their first tournament championship, as they join 19 other club teams in the Ohio State Hoops Challenge.

On Saturday, the Club girls posted a score of 79-60 to defeat the Lady Trailblazers of Lewis and Clark College. This win improved the team to an overall record of 2-0. The team will play Fontbonne University on Thursday night at 7pm, and have their first home game against Missouri Baptist University on Saturday. The first home game of the season will start at 2pm in the Student Activity Center at SIUE and admission is free. Look out for upcoming fundraiser events, when the team hosts a Buffalo Wild Wings in Edwardsville, IL, and also a 5K race. More information will be available soon. All proceeds will benefit the SIUE Women's Club Basketball team, and all donations are greatly appreciated.

As the quest for the 2012 National Championship begins, the SIUE Club Team seems to be off to a quick start. After practicing for a few weeks, the ladies were ready for their first game of action. The team started off their season with a big win on Monday over Lindenwood University - Belleville, with a score of 67-49. The Cougars will face Lewis and Clark College on Saturday.
